The Des Moines Sail and Power Squadron (DMSPS) is a fraternal boating organization for those interested in all things boating, whether it be paddling, sailing or power boating.

As a not-for-profit educational organization DMSPS is dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable through education and civic service.

ABOUT DMSPS

The Des Moines Sail & Power Squadron was chartered in 1960. Our members boat on the Mississippi River, Saylorville, Redrock and Okoboji Lakes in Iowa

The club offers fraternal and education opportunities to its members. It providing courses for self-improvement throughout the year to the membership and organizes various activities both on and off the water to provide fun and relaxation as well.

The club also provides educational opportunities to the general public by providing Public Boating Courses as well and many of the seminars now available for use.

It offers Vessel Safety Checks to the boaters in the area.


LOCATION
The state of Iowa is covered by five units of the USPS. Three of them are in District 30. The lower middle part of the state is covered by the Des Moines(DMSPS), the Four River Sail and Power Squadron (FRSPS) covers the eastern part of the state, and Waterloo Sail and Power Squadron (WSPS) covers the mid-upper part of the state. Actually the Omaha Sail and Power Squadron (part of District 30) covers the western end of the state in the Council Bluffs area. On the eastern end of Iowa the Dubuque Sail and Power Squadron and the Two Rivers Sail and Power Squadron cover the areas along the Mississippi River. They are a part of District 20.

PURPOSE OF USPS
The mission of the USPS is to promote recreational boating skills and boating safety through education, hands-on training, and civic activities while providing fellowship for members
